The term ‘languishing’ has come up quite a bit in the past couple of months – from the NY Times to Health blogs. Defined as apathy, a sense of restlessness, feeling unsettled or an overall lack of interest in life or the things that typically bring you joy.
While it is everywhere on the internet, I feel like the message on how to deal with it is quite valid. Do something different – use that creativity side of your brain. Break the routine somehow.
So how do you do that exactly? I am sure there’s tons of ways to do it, but what worked for me is sitting down and making a list of things that I wanted to learn. While the list was long, I narrowed it down to what excited me the most. I didn’t forget the other items, but just prioritized my *Bucketlist*. So far I have learnt how to make bread, sent close friends snail mail, almost completed a front-end coding course and have been learning Spanish (thanks to a wonderful friend and the amazing Duolingo app).
Finding ways to be creative while working can also help break the routine. Whether you are working onsite or at home, you can change up your schedule to include a different route to work or use your break to do something different (like going for a run!).
In all honesty, I think we are all trying to figure out a way through this. What works for someone may not work for another. The key is not to follow but to be inspired. We can all use some inspiration these days, so hopefully I’ve inspired you to use that creative side of your brain!
